432 | R-134a D-I-Y Manifold Gauge and Hose Set
- R-134a manifold gauge and hose set used to check low- and high-side pressures and adding refrigerant
- SAE-approved 24″ hoses: blue low-side, red high-side, and yellow charging hose
- Blue low-pressure gauge doubles as charging valve (red high-side gauge does not move)
- High- and low-pressure quick couplers with shutoff valves
- ACME threaded R-134a can tap
- Locate the vehicle’s air conditioner low side service port and remove protective cap. The low-side service port is located between the evaporator and the compressor, and is the only service port that the blue quick-couple connector will fit. The evaporator is located either under the dash or in the engine compartment close to the firewall.
- Locate the vehicle's air conditioner high-side service port and remove protective cap. The high-side service port is located between the compressor and the condenser, and is the only service port that the red quick-couple connector will fit.
- Inspect the manifold gauge set to make sure the low-side (blue) gauge is in the closed position by turning it clockwise. This will prevent refrigerant from escaping while the pressure is tested. The high-side (red) gauge is in a locked position and is only used for pressure testing – HIGH-SIDE GAUGE DOES NOT TURN
- Attach the low side (blue) quick-couple connector to the low-side service port by pulling back the sleeve and pushing the fitting onto the low-side service port, and then pushing the sleeve forward to lock into position.
- Attach the high-side (red) quick-couple connector the high-side service port by pulling back the sleeve and pushing the fitting onto the high-side service port, and then pushing the sleeve forward to lock into position.
- Start engine and turn air conditioner to maximum cooling. Determine if the compressor clutch is engaged and the compressor is running. If the compressor is not running, add one can of refrigerant using the instructions below. If the compressor still does not engage, the problem must be corrected before adding additional refrigerant or pressure testing.
- Allow air conditioner to run for three minutes and check operation pressures using this chart. (Ambient temperature refers to the air temperature surrounding the air conditioner.)
- Use this chart to determine whether the air conditioner is working properly, needs refrigerant, is overcharged with refrigerant, or needs service work.
